Ever seen one of these?
These strange hieroglyphics are called QR codes (abbreviated from Quick Response code) and are becoming increasingly utilised to electronically transfer information via a specific matrix barcode (or two-dimensional code). These are readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and most smartphones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded may be text, Web addresses, email addresses or other data.
